I am having problems with Internet tethering. I have an iPhone 3G that has been unlocked properly by O2. I have installed the profile and ammended it with the above settings, and I still don’t see the Internet Tethering button. There is a camera icon in messaging, so I presume that works, but it is more the internet tethering I am more concerned about. Can anybody help?

I have tried everything posted here….nothing worked I can receive MMS but cannot send, its driving me insane…can anyone helpppppppppp

I now have webnwalk unlimited net for £5 a month which works perfectly both 3g and edge.

The MMS now sends and recieves straight to the iphone, no having to visit the tmobile website anymore.

Also I have tethering working but abit slow with PDAnet from cydia. The iphone settings tethering doesn’t seem to be working.

This is with all the setting used from this blog.

Ye I sent one too myself and it sent good but came back with the go to net message.

I was using a cable using the iphone tethering option not pdanet or modem.
Right I’ll try with 3g or edge then.

Hi Ash,

Ok when you get the message that you have to go to the internet to view it. It means your phone for some reason isnt MMS activated. Try to send yourself an MMS, or put your SIM into another handset and send and MMS and see if it activates.

How are you connecting your iPhone to your laptop to allow tethering? Bluetooth or wifi?

Ah right, I don’t think you can use the phone’s wifi to tether via … I think it has to be 3G or Edge.

Hi Kal,

I’ve noticed that if you take a photo from within the messaging app, it doesn’t get saved to the photo roll. Perhaps it is best to take photo’s using camera app, and then go into the gallery and select an image to take.

I haven’t had chance to test a picture only MMS as compared to a picture and text one. If anyone else gets a moment … please feel free to comment.

The BenM site is really just to make things simple, since by default the tethering app is not available.

PDANet is a great piece of software … but requires your phone to be jailbroken … mind you so does running T-Mobile on an O2 iPhone! However as an infrequent tethering user, I liked the simplicity of the tethering, turn it on, my macbook finds the phone … connected.

OK MMS Sends but recieves the message that I have to go onto the internet to view it???

The iPhone says it is tethering but when I turn off the laptops wifi it doesn\’t load. I have currently got 3g and edge turned off as it is not unlimited I was trying to use the wifi from my iPhone to use on my laptop whilst the laptops wifi was off to test if it works can you do that????

When my contract updates this month I should have 3g and edge working!

Hello Guys,

I am using 3g iphone 3.0 unlocked to t-mobile UK.
Your comments section has been very useful to me. The picture messages are working for me now, the bit I was missing was the hard reboot.
I rebooted the phone about 3 times, because I remember the customer services at t-mobile say, that sometimes it takes a few tries to catch the settings or something.
Not the fastest mms. The iphone MMS has a mind of its own, sometimes it will be quick, other times slow. But generally faster to other non-iphones.

But I have noticed if you put TEXT with picture, it takes much longer, can anyone test this and verify please.
Also can someone try to send MMS directly by going into PHOTO’S LIBRARY, then selecting MMS from the options on the bottom bar, does this seems any quicker ??
Lastly can someone try MMS with Wifi off, and then and compare.

Interestly I did not use the ‘help.benm.at’ at all. I just copied the info in this forum directly into the Celluar Data Network Section.

As for tethering, no problems, I have got mine working perfectly and fast via usb (Why would you want to use bluetooth to tether-uses to much battery and is unreliable). I loaded an App from cydia (the unpaid Version) ‘PdaNet’. Then you have to download another sister App on your Laptop. Simple and beautiful, it works.

Yes, I notice they have a configurator … however there is one for MMS and one for Internet etc. For writing my blog post, it seemed easier for most people to import the standard one, and then make the necessary changes. Although might be worth contacting them to get the settings changed correctly.

How is the 3GS from Italy, I’m tempted to get one from there too.

I’ve been using the tething, as I have WebNWalk too .. works fine.

I’ve still got the tethering option after importing BenM and then making the necessary changes … not sure why you lose them.

Visual Voicemail … as you said, I’m sure it’s carrier dependent … so I wouldn’t hold your breath with T-Mo UK.
